October 2021: Project formally initiated by resident volunteers.
December 2021: Breakthrough presentation at Town Hall; 1,300+ signatures gathered.
2024: The Commitment
August 2024: City Council approves $100M budget and site acquisition for the Red Hill Gym.
2026: The Home
Winter 2026: Slated grand opening of the Irvine Fieldhouse with 10 dedicated courts.

2021-2022: Origins & First Advocacy Success
- Jan 11, 2022 | City Council officially directs staff to plan for dedicated courts after Dec 2021 advocacy push.
- Dec 2021 | Community breakthrough at Town Hall meeting; over 1,300 residents signed the petition for indoor courts.
- Oct 2021 | Formal initiation of the “Badminton in Irvine” volunteer organization to centralize resident demands.
Core Demands Identified: Residents highlighted a severe facility deficit, overflowing youth programs, and the need for a 24/7 dedicated home for the sport to replace sub-standard multi-use conditions.
